Lake Erie is the shallowest of the Great Lakes and the warmest in summer. The Western Basin is a shallow, productive fishery ringed by the Lake Erie Islands; the Central and Eastern Basins deepen out toward Buffalo. The south shore from Toledo to Erie, Pennsylvania is lined with marinas and small harbors.
